Obstacle Scattering as Seen
We recount some of Ralph Kleinman's scientiic achievements in obstacle scattering for time harmonic waves by reporting on two topics where R.K. and R.K. interacted mathematically. The rst topic is the problem of nonuniqueness for the classical boundary integral equations for the direct scattering problem and the second is the development of numerical methods for the inverse scattering problem.
متن کاملOn Simultaneous Identification of the Shape and Generalized Impedance Boundary Condition in Obstacle Scattering
Abstract. We consider the inverse obstacle scattering problem of determining both the shape and the “equivalent impedance” from far field measurements at a fixed frequency. In this work, the surface impedance is represented by a second order surface differential operator (refer to as generalized impedance boundary condition) as opposed to a scalar function. The generalized impedance boundary co...
متن کاملMultifrequency inverse obstacle scattering: the point source method and generalized filtered backprojection
We outline two methods for obstacle reconstruction from multifrequency far field scattering data, the first built upon the point source method proposed by Potthast for solving inverse scattering problems with single frequency data in the resonance region, and the second based on filtered backprojection techniques using the physical optics approximation for high frequency scattering. Our impleme...
متن کاملObstacle and Boundary Determination from Scattering Data
In this paper, we are concerned with the identification of complex obstacles from the scattering data for the acoustic problem. The complex obstacle is characterized by its shape and the boundary values of the impedance coefficient. We establish pointwise formulas which can be used to reconstruct the shape of the obstacle and give explicitly the values of the surface impedance as a function of ...
متن کاملVirtual Reshaping and Invisibility in Obstacle Scattering
We consider reshaping an obstacle virtually by using transformation optics in acoustic and electromagnetic scattering. Among the general virtual reshaping results, the virtual minification and virtual magnification are particularly studied. Stability estimates are derived for scattering amplitude in terms of the diameter of a small obstacle, which implies that the limiting case for minification...
